Some years ago, I went to Vienna on business at Christmas time. Over the weekend, a local subscriber joined me for Sunday brunch. After lunch, we strolled through the beautiful Christmas markets. Thousands of people were standing outdoors drinking mulled wine and enjoying each other’s company. We joined them—and talked and talked all afternoon, surrounded by thousands of people doing the same and having the time of their life. The joy of celebrating the season with loved ones was in the air. It was a powerful demonstration of the love we share with family and friends at this time of year. We chose the picture for this holiday greeting to celebrate that love.
As 2020 draws to a close, the time has come to celebrate the blessings in our lives. I am reminded of the pastor who said, “God does not need what you have lost to bless you!” Whatever challenges we may face in the coming year, let’s put our imaginations to work celebrating, connecting, and nurturing love—in other words, cultivating peace on Earth and good will toward men.
Christmas is my favorite time of year. Merriment, family, friends, and feasting are in order! As many of us navigate the real or imagined threats posed by the “magic virus,” let’s use our imagination and creativity to prevent politics from getting in the way of the joy we receive from family, friends, and community.

This Christmas, we pray for a healthy, happy home for every man, woman, and child.
