Nobody anchors a ship unless they realize that there is a potential of drifting. And if you’re not careful, you can drift away. I’m not talking about hurricanes or tornadoes; I’m talking about just the normal motion of the ocean – just the comings and goings of life, the vicissitudes of our lives, the circumstances for which we have no control will eventually just rock you further and further and further out. You can drift away so quietly that you don’t even recognize how far you’ve gone from where you ought to be. Hope is an anchor for the soul. That means that you put your soul on a leash, and so you will only move so far. I will only get but so depressed. I may get de- pressed, but only so far. At a certain point you may have to say, “You know what? I’ve got an anchor.” If there is someone or something in my life that is causing me to lose hope, they need to go! Hope is a precious thing. Today, I will nurture my hope and those around me who feed it. 29
